Roxanne St. Claire's MAKE HER PAY - celebrating with a giveaway!

Roxanne St. Claire has a new release, MAKE HER PAY, available now. Remember a couple of months ago I posted a review for HUNT HER DOWN, and said that I was looking forward to meeting Roxanne at the COFW conference book signing? That book signing took place about three weeks ago and I did have the pleasure of meeting Roxanne. She is an absolute doll -gorgeous, funny and charming; I wish I'd had more time to visit with her. Just as exciting was getting an early, autographed copy of MAKE HER PAY! Continuing the Bullet Catcher series, MAKE HER PAY is the story of Constantine "Con" Xenakis. Constantine made appearances in at least two Bullet Catcher books and I was extremely excited for his story, especially after his role in HUNT HER DOWN. Take a closer look at MAKE HER PAY with this great excerpt!

Blurb:
Bullet Catcher and former Navy SEAL Constantine Xenakis has infiltrated a dive ship to discover who's plundering priceless gems from a legendary sunken Spanish galleon. When he catches Lizzie Dare red-handed in the locked treasure room, her story of a stolen ancestral legacy convinces him to work with the sexy thief instead of turning her in -- and not just because he wants to find the real culprit. Lizzie is willing to risk everything to save the Bombay Blue Diamonds from her sworn enemy, even if that means giving in to an irresistible desire to get closer to her accomplice. But when passion hits them like a rogue wave and danger surrounds them like a school of hungry sharks, their adventure on the high seas turns treacherous...and deadly.

My review:
Constantine Xenakis is working undercover on a dive ship in an effort to find the person or persons responsible for recovered priceless artifacts. Imagine his surprise when he's only on the ship for a couple of hours and discovers fellow diver Lizzie Dare sneaking into the lab where the artifacts are held. After an initial confrontation, it appears that the two have similar objectives when it comes to the artifacts. Con's reaction to Lizzie is instantaneous and heated, which makes cozying up to her to keep her under watch no hardship whatsoever. But Con is hoping for a long-awaited, permanent return to the Bullet Catchers and soon finds himself torn between doing what's right and doing the job he's been probationally hired to do. Given his attraction to Lizzie, Con soon realizes that the job, his future, everything, hinges on whether or not he's willing to break her heart.
Lizzie's motives are much more personal than Con's and the emotion blanketing a heart that's heavy after her father's death is fueling her determination to return the artifacts where they rightfully belong. Constantine Xenakis is an unexpected force to be reckoned with. As if. There is very little reckoning with Con. He's the most intimidating, capable, frustrating male that Lizzie has ever encountered and she knows that staying on her toes, the very ones that he repeatedly makes curl, is the only way she'll be able to keep her wits and take possession of the sunken treasures. It isn't long before Con and Lizzie realize that they're surrounded by evil, on ship and on shore, and their fight soon goes beyond keeping the artifacts safe to keeping themselves alive.

MAKE HER PAY brings to a close the Bullet Catcher series that has brought readers so much pleasure over the years. I'm excited for the new series Roxanne St.Claire is working on, but at the same time, I'm extremely disappointed to see this series come to an end. I know that authors appreciate their readers and happily absorb the positive comments and feedback they get from them about their work, but wonder if they fully understand how deeply their talents touch (and stay with) readers? I have gotten my hands on every one of the Bullet Catcher books as soon as they were released, earlier if I was lucky enough to get them for review, and I truly think that I enjoyed the storytelling in this particular book more than any other in the series. Con is unashamedly a thief and Lizzie is a gentle, kind-hearted soul who has seemingly reached right in and grabbed hold of his heart, making it her own. Together they simply sizzle. I am trying to content myself with the knowledge that Roxanne St. Claire is hard at work on a new series, but in the meantime, I give MAKE HER PAY my highest recommendation!

Go here to order MAKE HER PAY!

To celebrate the release of MAKE HER PAY, I have an autographed copy of HUNT HER DOWN for giveaway. If you're interested, please leave a comment. I'm very interested in what your favorite book in the Bullet Catchers series is. Do you have a favorite character, locale, or couple? Haven't read any of the series? That's okay, and you can even say so in your comment, but then I'm going to ask "What rock have you been living under?" just to give you a hard time! Send a friend over who mentions you and you'll be entered an extra time for each friend. I'll draw the winning name on Tuesday, October 13. Good luck, everyone!
Can't wait to win a copy? I'll make it easy for you to get a copy of your own - go here to toss a copy of HUNT HER DOWN in your Amazon shopping cart alongside MAKE HER PAY!
Thanks for taking a look!

Kay Stockham's SIMON SAYS MOMMY - there's a giveaway!

Kay Stockham has a new book out and it's available now - SIMON SAYS MOMMY. Typical of Kay, this book is sweetly romantic, a poignant story about a couple who desperately need each other, but have many obstacles in their way. Kay was kind enough to request that I review this book on behalf of Romance Junkies for her and needless to say I was excited to have the opportunity!
Kay's website blurb:
Talk about being in over your head!
Dr. Ethan Tulane is juggling more than even his type A personality can handle. Between his new job as chief of surgery and learning to be a dad to Simon, his adopted son, Ethan is desperate. Enter Megan Rose, the temporary nanny. Simon bonds instantly with her, which makes Ethan heave a sigh of relief—even as he notices she’s very good-looking.
It’s not long before they’re exploring those sparks between them. Megan might be the one woman he could have forever with. Too bad there’s something she’s not sharing—something that could send her to the door before he can talk commitment. Ethan can’t let that happen, so it’s time for the big guns—letting Simon persuade her!

My (4 blue ribbon) Romance Junkies review:
In SIMON SAYS MOMMY, Kay Stockham tells the story of a beautiful young woman with a flawed past and a successful surgeon who’s questioning his future. Together they might just find the secrets of true love and the promise of happiness.

Megan Rose has repeatedly found herself the target of the most brutal of life’s hard knocks. Having suffered at the hands of an abusive husband, struggled her way through a bitter divorce, and finding herself extremely ill and living in her car, Megan makes her way to her sister’s home. She’s hopeful that Jenn will set aside their past differences and let her stay long enough to regain her strength and attempt to mend their damaged relationship. When Jenn wants no part of Megan and refuses to let her stay, Jenn’s brother in law, Ethan Tulane, takes Megan home with him and his recently adopted son, Simon. Megan never dreamed she would find herself being cared for by the incredibly handsome surgeon, or in turn, caring for his young son.
Ethan Tulane’s sole purpose in life seemed to be attaining the position of Chief of Surgery. When he was passed over for the position, he went to Niger with Doctors Without Borders where he fell in love with a young orphaned boy and decided to adopt him. After Ethan returns home and is named interim Chief of Surgery, he quickly finds himself in over his head. Taking pity on the very ill Megan, Ethan takes her home and doctors her back to good health. When she’s back on her feet, he offers her the position as live-in caregiver for Simon. Being fond of Simon, and thinking that staying on with Ethan will keep her in close proximity to her sister, enabling her to work on renewing their sisterly bond, she accepts his offer. The last thing Ethan or Megan expects is the attraction between them that quickly becomes heated, or the way Simon instantly connects with Megan.
Kay Stockham has once again given readers a beautiful love story. Megan and Ethan aren’t your typical romance characters. Megan has the baggage of a difficult childhood, an abusive marriage and a strained relationship with her sister. Ethan is without a doubt one of the good guys, but his need for total organization and perfection has put almost every aspect of his life on a collision course. Seeming the most unlikely pair, Megan and Ethan couldn’t be more perfect for each other. SIMON SAYS MOMMY comes with my very highest recommendation.

I'm going to give away my autographed copy of SIMON SAYS MOMMY. You'll have to do a little work for it (very little) - simply visit Kay's website and tell me a couple of things that you like about it. Don't forget to visit her blog while you're there, it's always great fun and she gives away some yummy prizes! I'll draw the winning name on Friday the 18th, so be sure to leave a comment by then. Most importantly, I don't attempt to track down giveaway winners, so be sure to check back to see if your name was drawn!
For all of you who aren't able to get out to your favorite bookseller to get a copy, here's a link to Amazon so you can order a copy to be delivered directly to your door!

ONE GOOD MAN, the latest from Alison Kent - I have two copies for giveaway!

Seeing how I'm home alone this evening, I had to draw my own winners. The winner of the autographed copy of ONE GOOD MAN is Maureen! The non-autographed winner is Laurie! Congrats, ladies! I know you've both been winners here before but I didn't keep your addresses - please email me with your mailing info at ljodamron@gmail.com by Thursday. Thanks to all who left comments - I loved hearing your Alison faves!
I hope everyone has a terrific week!

I don't have to tell those of you who are frequent visitors how much I adore Alison Kent. I like to think that I'm her biggest fan, but realize that saying so might have the rest of you who also love her sticking your tongues out or making nasty hand gestures at me! I was thrilled to get a copy of Alison's latest release, ONE GOOD MAN, and am excited that she included an autographed copy for giveaway here! I'm going to give away a copy too (no, it won't be autographed), so everyone has two chances to win.
Here's a little chatter about ONE GOOD MAN, starting with the blurb:
Ten years ago Jamie Danby was the only survivor of a senseless killing spree. Because the killer was never found, Jamie has lived her life in hiding, waiting for the worst. Now she's in danger again and she's not sure she can handle it. Until one sexy, rugged, gorgeous man strides into her life, determined to protect her at any cost!
Kell Harding is a Texas Ranger—and how! They don't make 'em tougher. Jamie soon finds out that they don't make 'em hotter either!
But Kell plans only to keep Jamie safe—not keep her forever. As soon as his assignment is done, so is he.

At least, that's what he thinks….

Did you guys see the ABC news feature on recession reading? It was an interesting look at the increased sales of romance despite the economic decline - proof that literary escape is good for the soul, right? Anyway, part of that report includes the photo shoot for ONE GOOD MAN - how cool is that? Go here to take a look at it.
Want even more? Alison has a great excerpt on her site - check it out here

My review:
Jamie Danby has spent the past ten years looking over her shoulder. As the sole survivor of an attack that left five of her co-workers dead and their attacker never caught, she has much to fear. The the case is brought to light again and Texas Ranger Kellen Harding steps up the investigation, Jamie reluctantly agrees to undergo forensic hypnosis in a hopeful search for missing clues about the attack.
When the killer reappears and Jamie's life is once again in danger, she realizes that she has a formidable source of protection on her side this time in Kell. While they both understood the risks involved, neither of them were expecting to fall so quickly, or so hard, for each other. Kell is determined to simply walk away once the case has been put to rest, but that's no easy task when Jamie's holding on to his heart.
Does anyone remember a long, long time ago, when "filmed in living color" was how many television shows were announced? Shall I age myself even more by announcing that I was 14 before we had color television at home? My kids can't believe that. I digress, sorry. Alison writes in a sort of living color - she doesn't simply tell you a story, it's as if you open the book and she takes your hand, encouraging you to step into the story. Every sound, smell, texture, and emotion become almost tangible. Jamie's fear is real enough at times that you can feel it in your gut, and Kell's determination is realized with an almost spine-tingling desperation.
I highly recommend ONE GOOD MAN and hope that you'll all be encouraged to check it out!

Here's a link to Amazon - they are shipping ONE GOOD MAN now and you might find it on the shelves of your favorite bookseller - if not now, then very soon.

Up next for Alison is WITH EXTREME PLEASURE, releasing around Thanksgiving. This features Kingdom Trahan who was introduced in NO LIMITS - he's a uniquely interesting character from the bayou and I have a feeling his story will be sultry and steamy; maybe even a little dirty. King is a strong character in NO LIMITS with an easy, laid back style, and I can't wait to see what Alison has in store for him! WITH EXTREME PLEASURE IS available for pre-order at Amazon for just $10.29.

ONLY SOMETHING THIS DANGEROUS…
After three weeks in Manhattan, Kingdom Trahan is ready to get back to bayous, crawfish boils, and afternoons fishing on the Gulf. But before he can pull out of the parking garage, he meets a curvy detour. King noticed Cady Kowalski on the photo shoot he just endured—sexy and confident, with a waifish look that belies the way she corralled him into submission using only a can of hairspray. Yet Cady isn’t confident now. She’s bruised, edgy, and desperate to get out of town…
COULD FEEL THIS GOOD…
For years, Cady has been looking over her shoulder, wondering when the gang of drug-running criminals who killed her brother would make their move on her. She’s grown used to having no one to turn to, no one to trust. But King isn’t walking away—not even when their lives are threatened, again and again. Drawing Cady’s pursuers out of hiding is the only way to end this, and it’s also the most reckless thing they can do…short of diving into a red-hot affair from which there’s no turning back…

For a bigger nibble, there's a great excerpt here.

Now for the giveaway. I'll draw two names on Monday, 8/31 (Happy Birthday, Alison!) Interested? Leave a comment and you'll be entered. I always love to hear what other readers' favorite "Alison" book is, favorite series, favorite character, etc. My favorite remains The Beach Alibi with Kelly John and Emma - sigh - if only it could have been longer! But there's Leo and Macy to consider too, and oh, who could possibly forget Sebastian and Erin? Maybe you'd rather tell us what you've recently read, what you're reading now, or what book(s) you're looking forward to - and that's good!
Thanks everyone for stopping by and special thanks to you, Alison, for allowing me to review this one for you - and for the extra copy for giveaway!

Janice Maynard's THE MATING GAME

Janice Maynard has a new release, MATING GAME - check it out! I truly think this is my favorite of all of Janice's covers so far, it's gorgeous!
Nola Grainger needs a man...and fast. Her grandmother has left her everything in her will, with one small catch: Nola has to be married within a month. But if she's going to get married, she wants it to last. And for her, that means finding a man with as much passion as she has—who can take care of every desire, every day.
Nola finds three prime candidates: her high school sweetheart Billy, hard-dealing businessman Marc, and sexy handyman Tanner. Trying out three very different—and very desirable—men proves to be more fun than Nola imagined.
But she never thought it might prove fatal.Because someone in town is dead set against Nola sticking around. And with three new men in her bed, the danger might be closer than she thinks...
Janice's website has a great excerpt too - take a look!
My review:
Nola Grainger has thirty days to find a husband in order to inherit her grandmother's ancestral home. Trouble is, Nola doesn't even have a steady boyfriend. What she does have are three prospects who couldn't be more different if they tried. First is her exciting, occasional bed partner Marc, who leaves her breathlessly satisfied, next is her high school sweetheart, Billy, seemingly Nola's first choice, but he seems a little cool. Lastly, there's Tanner, the able bodied, hard bodied handyman her grandmother had hired to renovate her home. While Nola realizes that passion and sexual attraction are important aspects of marriage, she wants more. She wants a marriage that's real, with someone who will be her mate for life, not just for the one year required by the conditions of her grandmother's will. All three men sincerely care about Nola and their attentiveness is flattering to her as well as at times, confusing.
As if all of this wasn't difficult enough for Nola, someone has decided they don't want her around and increasing threats have her fearing for her life.
MATING GAME is a tad different than any romance I've read. It has Janice's trademark sensuality and classy, likable characters, but the premise of a young woman testing the waters, so to speak, in the beds of three different guys might be a bit of a stretch for some readers. I'll admit that my first thought when the heroine, Nola, slept with all three in a very short period of time, was "Man, what a floozy." As the story progresses, Nola's emotions are delved into more deeply, and while the concept might still be a little on the wild side for those of us who are strictly monogamous, remembering that this is fiction, written solely to entertain, will allow you to fully enjoy. On a side note, Nola ends up picking the guy that I fell for early on, so I was especially pleased with her happy ending! Way to go, Janice! Oh come on guys, you all know Nola's going to have a happy ending, the question was with whom!

Click here to go to Amazon - the last time I looked, Amazon's price was $11.25 - what a steal!
Big thanks to Janice for allowing me to read this for you - and my apologies for being so late with the chatter. You've hit yet another home run with MATING GAME!

INSTANT GRATIFICATION, the latest from Jill Shalvis - there's a giveaway!

Jill Shalvis has a new book, INSTANT GRATIFICATION, about to release (later this month), and for all of you who enjoyed INSTANT ATTRACTION, the first in Jill's "Wilder" series, you're going to love this next installment. If you haven't read INSTANT ATTRACTION, there's still time to snag a copy and catch up with the rest of us!

Blurb:
In Instant Attraction, Jill Shalvis introduced Cameron, Stone, and T.J., the sexy, daredevil brothers who run Wilder Adventures. And for Stone Wilder, the thrill of a lifetime is about to arrive in a surprising package…
THE DOCTOR IS IN DEEP
Wishful, California, is 3000 miles from Dr. Emma Sinclair’s last job in a New York City ER. It may as well be another galaxy. Here, running her father’s clinic for a summer, Emma treats bee stings, stomach flu, and the occasional pet cat. Plus, she has to contend with patients like Stone Wilder: gorgeous, laid-back, and irritating beyond belief. The man laughs at her. A lot. And Emma loathes him. All except that tiny part of her that wants to throw him on her examining table and break every doctor-patient rule in the book…
When Stone tries to help Emma learn to loosen up a bit, he pictures white-water rafting or scenic mountain hikes. Not a mind-blowing affair that shakes them both to the core. Emma’s sure she has no place in a town like Wishful, but Stone knows different. Emma belongs here, in this town, in hislife. And convincing this strong-minded, stubborn, sexy woman of that fact will be a challenge no Wilder man could resist…

My review:
Dr. Emma Sinclair left a successful, satisfying job in a New York City ER to come to Wishful, California and cover her father's practice while he recovers from a heart attack. Preferring the hustle and bustle of the city to the laid back, slow motion pace of Wishful, Emma can't wait for her dad to get back on his feet so she can go home. Outdoor adventurer Stone Wilder makes no bones about wanting Emma, but she's determined to remain independently alone. Until she agrees to strike up an affair with Stone that is, no strings attached. Emma didn't come to Wishful with the expectation of getting to know her estranged father, getting to know and more importantly, starting to care for, Stone Wilder, and she absolutely did not expect to get to know herself as part of the equation.
Stone Wilder is instantly attracted to Emma Sinclair, sparks practically fly whenever he's close to the beautiful doctor. He has known and loved women for a long time so he gets the attraction and the sparks. What he doesn't get is why in the world she's in such an all-fired hurry to get back to New York. He's seriously interested in a long-term relationship, but convincing her to leave her cold, sterile NYC life is proving to be a challenge he's not certain he can win.
Like all Jill Shalvis books, INSTANT GRATIFICATION covers all the bases. Readers will laugh at times, feel giddy at others, experience heartfelt pain, and hold their breath (and then sigh) at the steamy, searing passion. Emma and Stone seem total opposites but truth be told, they both just want someone to love and to be loved in return. I feel certain that readers will agree that this is an excellent follow-up to INSTANT ATTRACTION and I highly recommend this book, and this series, to all romance lovers.

Want a copy? Buzz on over to Amazon - I would note that I recently received an email from Amazon indicating that INSTANT GRATIFICATION has been marked down by 27% - you can't beat that!
Jill has been kind enough to offer a book (winner's choice) from her backlist for giveaway. Leave a comment about Jill's website, her blog, her books, etc. and you'll be entered. I'll draw the winning name on Saturday, June 27. Good luck!
Thanks for checking out INSTANT GRATIFICATION!

Roxanne St. Claire's HUNT HER DOWN

Roxanne St. Claire has a new book, HUNT HER DOWN, releasing at the end of August '09. Yeah, I know, all of you romantic suspense lovers already know that, and boy do I ever hope you're super excited because this one is so very worth the wait! And those of you who appreciate hot covers, did you check this one out? Wow! This cover has been touched up to sizzle so much more than the cover on the arc - very nice! I was fortunate enough to snag HUNT HER DOWN for Romance Junkies review, but before you read my review, here's a couple of little nibbles from Ms. St. Claire's website to tempt and tease!

HUNT HER DOWN (Mini-Excerpt #1)
“Call it whatever you want.” Dan lifted the hand holding the dossier and gave Max Roper’s massive shoulder a decent smack. “Now go eat some charred meat like a good Rottweiler. You’re missing the party and all the gossip about the reasons behind my first official leave of absence.”
“A leave of absence?” Max’s gaze slid to his shoulder. “With a Bullet Catcher dossier still warm from the Research and Investigative Department printer?”
The son of a bitch didn’t miss a trick. “Just grabbed a file on an old friend I might look up in the Keys.”
“You’re going to Florida? Cori and I are going down to Miami tomorrow, to her place on Star Island. Why don’t you stay with us for a few days?”
“And get psychoanalyzed by two of you? No thanks. Anyway, I’ll be a couple of hours south, in Marathon.”
“Doing what?” Max pressed.“Fishing.”
“You don’t own a tackle box. What’s going on down there?”
“Nothing.” He hoped. “I’m taking some time to myself. See an old friend. Learn the difference between a trout and a…nother kind of fish.”
“Who’s the old friend?”
It was a waste of time to try and sidestep Roper. “A young lady I knew from my Miami days.”
Well, she’d been young. But not exactly a lady.

HUNT HER DOWN (Mini-Excerpt #2)
Straightening, Maggie nodded to the stranger. “I’ll be right there,” she mouthed, taking the empty glasses from the table and wending around some chairs to make her way over.
As she did, he made no effort to hide his long, slow appraisal of her, the hungry gaze leaving a trail of heat and a thousand chills over every well-admired inch of her. By the time he got back up to her face, she’d reached the table, and slithered into the chair across from him.
“You want a Heineken?”
“Among other things.” He added an imperfect, slanted, utterly decadent smile that took him from jaw-dropper to heart-wrecker in a pulse beat.
“Name ’em,” she shot back.
He dropped his elbows on the table and folded his arms, a move that just emphasized the power and size of his shoulders, and leaned closer. She got a whiff of peppermint and spice, and dose of raw sex appeal, and a chance to see that, no, he hadn’t shaved.
“Mrs. Smith. Are you married?”
His question was direct, simple, and delivered with a baritone that made her wonder if his chest rumbled when he spoke.
“Not anymore.” She met him halfway across the table. “Are you?”
“Not even close.”
“Well, now that we got that little detail out of the way, how about we finally introduce ourselves?” She held out her hand, ready for the first touch, bracing for the electricity she just knew was going to zing up her arm. “I’m--”
“I know who you are,” he said. He didn’t shake her hand. Instead, his long, strong fingers plucked at one of the silver bangles on her wrist. “You make noise when you walk, you know that?”
She just stared at him, mesmerized and unable to look away.
“I’ve been hearing you jingle in my sleep.”
Oh boy. He was good.
“What’s it sound like?”
“Trouble.”

My (5 Blue Ribbon!) Romance Junkies review:
When former lovers Dan and Maggie are reunited after a thirteen year estrangement, old threats become new dangers and past secrets may hold the key to their future, in Roxanne St. Claire’s HUNT HER DOWN.

As soon as Bullet Catcher Dan Gallagher hears that evil drug lord Ramon Jimenez has been released from prison, he knows there’s a good chance he and his cohorts will be seeking out those who put him away. Although she didn’t testify in court, Maggie Varcek played an intricate role in bringing Ramon down. It soon becomes apparent that Maggie’s life is in danger. As Dan steps back into Maggie’s life to protect her and they test the waters of a new relationship, he realizes that the secrets he kept from Maggie are small compared to the one she’s unknowingly kept from him.
Maggie has tried to put the past behind her and keep it there, but she never forgot the man she loved so desperately all those years ago. When Dan Gallagher shows up at the bar she owns, she’s instantly intrigued. She’s upset over his earlier deceit, but her anger quickly dissipates as danger looms, threatening everything she’s fought so hard to safeguard. Maggie discovers strengths she didn’t know she possessed, and a passion for life and love that promise an exciting new future, provided they can stay alive.
The latest in the hugely popular Bullet Catcher series, HUNT HER DOWN is simply stellar. Roxanne St. Claire has given Dan an absolutely perfect match in Maggie. She is fiercely independent and strong, capable of taking care of herself, and readers will discover a side of Dan that will make them fall even more deeply in love with him. Through the reflections and recollections of Dan and Maggie, readers are provided heartrending back story. Both had difficult decisions to make and those decisions played a significant role in developing the lives they made for themselves and the people they became. Secondary characters are key to the story and the appearances of previous Bullet Catcher characters will satisfy even the most dedicated of Ms. St. Claire’s fans. I give HUNT HER DOWN the highest of recommendations, especially for readers who’ve read the earlier books in this series. For readers who are new to the series this book stands firmly on its own, but for even greater reading enjoyment I suggest reading in order; I’m confident that you won’t regret it.

I'll make it easy for you to get a copy of your own - go here to toss a copy in your Amazon shopping cart!

Releasing in late September '09 is the next Bullet Catchers installment, MAKE HER PAY, the story of Constantine "Con" Xenakis. I can't wait!! Constantine made appearances in at least two Bullet Catcher books and his role in HUNT HER DOWN has me extremely excited for his story. Want even more temptation? Get a closer look at MAKE HER PAY with this great excerpt!
Go here to pre-order MAKE HER PAY!

In perusing Ms. St. Claire's website I see that she'll be visiting Ohio in September as keynote speaker at the Central Ohio Fiction Writers conference - I couldn't be more excited! I don't attend the conference, but always try to make it to the booksigning since it's only 30 minutes from me. Maybe we can get her back to Ohio sometime for Lori and Dianne's event in Cincinnati, hmmm?
Thanks for stopping!

MOST WANTED - Sasha White's latest!

Sasha White has a new release out. It's a single author anthology titled MOST WANTED. Sasha was kind enough to send me a copy for review and I have to offer up my sincerest apologies for being late (the norm for me these days, eh?). This is a great book with a catchy title, even catchier cover (another one with a faceless guy, go figure), and as you would expect from Sasha, there's not a bad story in the bunch! Here's more:

Bad boys—they’re the best lovers around. Submit to the pleasure of their dark and dangerous passions…
“Hidden Cravings”PI Lexy Signorino has spent the last year trying to forget her insatiable desire for Devon Kaye’s rock hard body. But when he turns up one night asking her to help him find his missing cousin, she’s ready to surrender to sweet sensual satisfaction…
“Unrestricted Access”Jillian Furst has lusted after detective Jackson Barrows long enough and decides it’s time for some female seduction. She sends him flowers and a steamy letter with explicit instructions for a sexual fantasy that keeps them busy in bed all night long…
“No Angel”Anna Blair looks sweet and innocent, but playboy Gabriel Mann discovers she’s far from it. Mess with her and she’ll mess right back. And that’s just the way he likes it—down and dirty carnal pleasure that keeps him coming back for more…

My review:
When Devon Kaye shows up on Alexis Signorino’s doorstep a year after they shared an intensely heated week together, she has to remind herself that he’s there seeking her help in a search for his missing cousin. As the two work closely together in the search for Devon’s cousin, earlier sparks rekindle into a raging inferno. Will steamy sensuality and renewed romance be enough to make a lasting relationship?
Jillian Furst wants her neighbor, Jackson Barrows, in the worst way. Unfortunately, Jackson doesn’t seem to share her interest. Oh sure, he’ll flirt and tease, but he never makes a forward move. Jill decides to take matters into her own hands and sends Jack flowers and sexy, suggestive notes, leaving no room for misunderstanding her wants and desires. Jack quickly realizes who is propositioning him and he couldn’t be happier. It doesn’t take long for them both to realize that this could be just the beginning of a long, hot future together.
Anna Blair fights demons every single day. One thing she doesn’t fight is her immediate attraction to Gabriel Mann. Gabe can’t believe his good fortune in meeting Anna. She doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to knowing (and giving) pleasure and going for it. When Anna shares her complicated background and daily fight for survival with him, Gabe knows he has to involve his brother and sister in law because of their knowledge and capability in dealing with demons. Anna fears for their safety and decides that this final demon battle is hers alone. Gabe can only hope that he’ll get to her in time so as to make her his own.
This isn’t your typical Sasha White book. Yes, all three romances have her trademark eroticism and blatantly wicked sensuality, but there’s also a touch of lightheartedness, humor, and the paranormal. I think that long-time Sasha White fans will love MOST WANTED. New readers will undoubtedly question why they haven’t read Sasha before.

Thank you, Sasha, for allowing me to read and review MOST WANTED for you! As always, I loved all of your characters, but especially felt the wonderful emotion packed into each story!
Thanks for checking it out - MOST WANTED is in bookstores now, or you can order at Amazon .

ONE RECKLESS SUMMER from Toni Blake!

Toni Blake has a new release, ONE RECKLESS SUMMER, and it's available - now! What a great cover for summer reading, don't you think? Toni's characters are always the type of young woman that most women want to be - beautiful, intelligent, with good girl innocence written all over them. Until they find the right man, that is, and then they're as sensual and seductive as warm satin. And then there's the cute little nicknames that their guys always give them - Snowflake (ok, so this was in a Lacey book, not a Toni book), Pussycat, Cupcake, Kitten, etc. Do any of you have a snappy or cute nickname? Do you know what my hub calls me? Puss. Not pussycat like Jenny in ONE RECKLESS SUMMER, just plain Puss. We've been married almost 30 years and I've been called Honey and Babe (and probably a couple of others behind my back), but mostly Puss. Toni's "guys" are always so dreamy - the hero's name in ONE RECKLESS SUMMER is Mick - I don't know about you gals, but every guy I've known named Mick was a bad boy. With the exception of one, and I'm pretty certain his mother meant to call him "Milque" (as in "toast") rather than Mick. Surely there was a typo on the birth certificate. Poor guy.
Here's a blurb:
The perfect daughter. The perfect prom queen. The perfect wife. Jenny Tolliver’s been the good girl all her life, and it’s gotten her nowhere. Now that her marriage has been busted up by her cheating ex, she’s decided it’s time to regroup and rediscover herself. This summer she’s headed back to her hometown of Destiny, Ohio, to the very lakeshore cottage where she grew up, to figure out what life holds in store for her next.
She never dreamed the answer would be Mick Brody, Destiny’s #1 hellraiser. He comes from the wrong side of the tracks (or in his case, the lake), and he’s landed in hot water more times than he can count. He’s exactly the kind of guy Jenny’s always kept her distance from … but soon the good girl and the bad boy are caught in a raw heat that’s out of control. Too bad Mick’s got a secret that
threatens to tear them apart and ruin Jenny’s perfectly, passionately reckless summer …

And you'll find even more here about ONE RECKLESS SUMMER including a video, a great excerpt, review snippets and a link to order.
Thanks for checking it out!

HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN - Karen Kelley tells us how!

Karen Kelley has a new book, HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN, coming out in just a few days and I couldn't be more excited for her! Readers are going to adore Nikki and Cal.

Here's a blurb:
Reporter Nikki “The Barracuda” Scott will sink her teeth into anything. So when her editor sends her to get the lowdown on bad boy football star Cal Braxton, Nikki’s game to rough it on his family ranch. She just isn’t prepared for exactly how rough. Still, the nasty outhouse, noisy animals, and resident ghost won’t put Nikki off...especially once she sets eyes (and hands, and mouth) on her subject. If there’s a juicy story here, Nikki intends to devour it…
So, the lady thinks she’s gonna get the scoop on him? Cal’s had his fill of scheming females—hell, his conniving ex-fiancee is the very reason he’s hiding out. Then again, if all journalists were as hot as Nikki, he might consider being more open with the press. Too bad she won’t be around for long. If the chores and “rustic” conditions don’t frighten Nikki off, her haunted accommodations surely will. Tough it turns out Nikki doesn't scare easily. Now Cal’s the one who’s scared—of falling hard...
Karen's website has ordering information, a cool video and an excerpt, so be sure to check it out.
Here's a little review from me:
Reporter Nikki Scott resents being sent by her editor to gather information for a fluff piece on football star Cal Braxton and his recent broken engagement. She makes a reservation for a week at Cal’s brother’s dude ranch since Cal is hanging out there. Nikki is known as “The Barracuda” and she’s certain that she’ll be able to charm her way to the truth without even trying. Upon arrival at the ranch, Cal puts her in an old cabin that clearly hasn’t been inhabited by anyone for an incredibly long time. Since Nikki lied about the true reason behind her visit, she plays along. When an undeniable attraction develops, Nikki continues her deception, not knowing that Cal is on to her and knows exactly why she’s there.
Cal can’t help but be attracted to Nikki, but knowing that she’s just another nosey reporter, he decides to turn the tables on her a bit and give her an extreme ranch experience. Just as Nikki wasn’t counting on rougher than rough accommodations that include an outhouse, pumped water and a woodstove, Cal wasn’t counting on falling head over heels for Nikki. Oh, and neither of them was counting on a ghost showing up for a surprise visit.
Karen Kelley isn’t just an author, she’s an entertainer. Her books are always a bright spot for me, comedic without being ridiculous or cheesy. The lightheartedness is consistently tempered with just the right amount of passion, sensuality, and sweetness to please every romance reader. I'm confident that readers will fall in love with Nikki and Cal. Nikki isn’t nearly as threatening as her nickname suggests, and while Cal may think he’s doling out tough love to teach her a lesson, they’re both getting a lesson - in love.

Now for the fun stuff! Karen is going to be the guest blogger here on Tuesday, May 26th. There will be Q&A, chatter about Karen's books, characters, and her upcoming works. And maybe, just maybe, she'll let us in on how she seduced her own Texan, long-time hubby and best friend, Karl! It wouldn't be a party without prizes, now would it? Karen will be offering up two copies each of CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE SEXY KIND and HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN - pretty sweet, right? Thanks, Karen! I'm looking forward to Tuesday!

Deirdre Martin's WITH A TWIST

Deirdre Martin has a new book, WITH A TWIST, scheduled to release next week (May 4) - if you don't have this one already ordered or in your online cart, what are you waiting for? I've loved Deirdre Martin's work from the very beginning and was very pleased to have the opportunity to review WITH A TWIST on behalf of Romance Junkies.

He's a tall order. She's a hot dish.
But are they ready for the main course?

Natalie Bocuse dreams of managing a chic Manhattan restaurant. In the meantime she's waitressing at her sister's French bistro in Brooklyn.
Among the regulars is Quinn O'Brien, not only the best reporter in New York but the most handsome. He'll do anything for a story, even break hearts, though Natalie swears hers will stay untouched.
When Quinn offers Natalie a waitressing job at his parents' Irish Pub in Manhattan, she can't refuse. She'll be a step closer to her dream and temptingly close to Quinn. But then Quinn's new editor-in-chief steps through the pub's doors and wants to order what's on Natalie's menu. Now Quinn will do anything to stop the presses. Pursuing the greatest story of his life, his own love story, Quinn's going to need his luck of the Irish to win Natalie's heart—or else it's c'est la vie...

Click here for an exciting excerpt!
My (4 Blue Ribbon) Romance Junkies review:
She’s a beautiful French woman who dreams of managing an upscale restaurant in New York City. He’s the best reporter in New York City whose only dream has been scooping the next big story. Until, that is, he meets Natalie, after which the only story he wants to write involves Natalie, him, and happily ever after.
Natalie Bocuse loves her sister, Vivi, but rather than waiting tables in her sister’s quaint bistro, she dreams of managing a classy, chic Manhattan restaurant. When newspaper reporter Quinn O’Brien offers her a position waiting tables in his family’s Irish pub, it isn’t the position she envisions for herself, but it is in the city, so she’ll be one step closer. As Natalie gets to know (and love) Quinn, his family, and the quirky assortment of regulars at the pub, she soon realizes that class and sophistication come in all shapes and sizes and aren’t limited to upscale, pricey eateries.
Quinn has admired Natalie at her sister’s bistro and regularly eats there just to be near her, despite her snooty attitude and frequent insults. When he learns that she has moved to the city and is looking for a job, he is quick to recommend her for the waitress position at his parents’ pub. He tries to fit himself into Natalie’s mold of the perfect man, but he’s finding it an extremely uncomfortable fit. Quinn simply isn’t cut out for fancy, expensive restaurants and the opera, not to mention the pinch he’s feeling in his wallet. It isn’t long before the uptight Natalie has relaxed and is enjoying herself with their zany customers, and surprisingly, trying very hard to make a positive impression on his family.
Natalie and Quinn are excellently written as total opposites who are helpless against the attraction between them. As their relationship intensifies and becomes more serious, Natalie is very concerned. She has made serious adjustments in her attitude and expectations, and while she knows that Quinn cares deeply for her, she’s beginning to question whether she will ever come first before the next story. Add touches of intrigue and suspense, secondary characters whose own backgrounds and lives are a priceless complement to Natalie and Quinn’s story, and WITH A TWIST is a first-class contemporary romance; I give it a very high recommendation.
Hopefully you're good and tempted, so here's a quick link to Amazon so you can get your own copy of WITH A TWIST!
Thanks for checking it out!

HARD AND FAST, coming soon from Erin McCarthy!

Erin McCarthy, one of the sweetest women you'll ever meet, was generous enough to send me an arc of HARD AND FAST, the second (following FLAT-OUT SEXY) in her racing series. Erin was also kind enough to send me a copy of FLAT-OUT SEXY as well because I hadn’t read it yet. I did a very quick read of FLAT-OUT SEXY because I’m close to being behind on reviews right now and running very close to the release of HARD AND FAST (May '09).
FLAT-OUT SEXY is just that, a steamy, sexy read that tells the story of Prof. Tamara Briggs-Monroe and stock car driver Elec Monroe. Their story is incredibly romantic and happily for readers, they play an important role in HARD AND FAST. Catching up with them was especially fun! One thing is certain – I’ll be rereading both of these books at a more leisurely pace in the very near future!
I guess I would be remiss to not mention the gorgeous covers, right? The only thing missing, quite literally, is their heads. Now I'm sure these guys aren't homely (and with bodies like this, who cares if they are, right?), but I'm a smidge courious as to why they took off their heads. Personally, I think it adds a touch of mystique - what do you guys think?

An experiment in romance…
New to Charlotte, stock car racing country, graduate student Imogen Wilson meets Ty McCordle, a driver who inexplicably has her pulse racing. After an encounter at the track with a woman whose main goal in life is to marry a driver, Imogen realizes she’s hit on the perfect thesis for her Sociology degree. If she follows The Rules on how to get a man, can she steer her way to into the hearts of the drivers and establish their dating—and mating—patterns?
That’s testing the limits of passion.
Although sexy and reckless Ty is the ideal test subject, she knows she can’t pursue him for the sake of science. Yet he’s the one who’s chasing after her, and Imogen realizes that she actually wants to be caught. A southern gentleman like Ty won’t fail to disappoint, will satisfy all her curiosity—and make all the risks worthwhile…

Want a bigger taste? Go here for a great excerpt!
My review:
HARD AND FAST is the story of grad student Imogen Wilson and stock car driver Ty McCordle. While the two are total opposites, there is an instant attraction between them. Imogen accepts an invitation from her friend Tamara to go to a stock car race and ends up sitting next to a race bunny who’s reading a book detailing how to snag and marry a race car driver. Imogen immediately knows that she has a topic for her thesis. She has had eyes for Ty McCordle for some time, but his dating said race bunny puts a damper on any hopes she has for attempting to check the courting rituals of drivers for herself. Before she knows it, Ty is available and undeniably interested in Imogen, but when he insists on a two-week “get to know you” courtship before taking their relationship to the next level, she is equally surprised and frustrated. When their relationship intensifies and Ty decides to share a huge secret with Imogen i.e. his dyslexia, she isn’t turned off and doesn’t find him pathetic or lacking as he had feared. Even so, her reaction isn’t at all what Ty expects and after he makes some ugly accusations, he finds himself once again available.
Ty has battled dyslexia his entire life and while charm and an excellent memory have served him well, he’s more than a little intimidated by Imogen’s superior intelligence. When he discovers her thesis research, he quickly decides that he doesn’t want her researching with anyone but him. As the two give in to their intense attraction and their relationship quickly turns serious, Ty knows that he’s going to have to tell Imogen the truth about his dyslexia. While she is surprised, she isn’t disgusted as he expects, but he’s the one who reacts without thinking and Imogen’s euphoria is quickly extinguished by Ty’s accusations.
Imogen and Ty aren’t your typical romance characters. Imogen might be bookish and totally lacks the artifice of many of the women who attract stock car drivers, but that is a rather minuscule part of her charm. She is a very sexual woman who knows what she wants and is unashamed in going after it. Ty may be smooth, but underneath the self-assured bravado he’s vulnerable and especially uncertain of his future with Imogen. While the sensuality between them is abundant and intensely heated, they have real, heartfelt conversations and truly care for and respect each other. Imogen puts me in mind of Dr. Temperance Brennan on the television show “Bones” – brainy and beautiful, always speaking her mind, unable (and unwilling, besides) to hide her intelligence while remaining absolutely adorable. Erin McCarthy has once again given readers a beautiful love story that fits in its very own mold. I give this book (and this series) my highest recommendation!

Making it easy for you here - head on over to Barnes & Noble or Amazon if you'd like to pre-order a copy.
Thank you all for checking out HARD AND FAST. Special thanks to Erin for allowing me to read and review this one for you - I loved Imogen and Ty!
Have a great week!

NO LIMITS, coming soon from Alison Kent - there are books up for grabs!

The luckiest girl in the world. That’s me. At least that’s how I felt to get an arc of NO LIMITS from Alison Kent. I couldn’t wait to start it, didn’t want to put it down once I had started, and I certainly didn’t want it to end. I read when I should have been getting ready for work in the morning, I read after my lunch hour had ended, and I read when I should have been asleep. 6 a.m. rolls around especially early when you're reading until 1 a.m.! NO LIMITS will be available for purchase around the third week of April - I strongly recommend that you preorder your copy now.
Alison simply cannot write fast enough to suit me - raise your hand if you feel the same! You’ve witnessed my gushing about how much I love Alison’s work on several occasions, so for now I’ll just say that NO LIMITS kicks some serious ass. Fair warning, I reserve the right to gush in my review below!

The Heat is On . . .
Simon Baptiste’s latest SG-5 mission just went south in a major way. With his career on ice for awhile, it seems like a good time to take care of some business back home in Louisiana. Simon knows it ain’t going to be pretty. He’s got some old enemies in Bayou Allain who won’t exactly roll out the red carpet. But Simon’s first night back is more than he bargained for. Not only has the homestead gone to hell in a hand basket, but there’s a half-naked woman hiding inside it—a woman whose face Simon knows all too well. It’s Michelina Ferrer, the sultry spokesmodel for her family’s Ferrer fragrance empire—and Simon’s been staring at her picture on a billboard outside his Manhattan apartment for weeks…
And It’s Only Getting Hotter . . .
Micky Ferrer came down to Bayou Allain looking for her old college friend, only to discover that Lisa Landry has been missing for days. As soon as Micky starts asking questions around town, someone runs her car off the road. She’s hiding out in the old Baptiste place when Simon shows up—and he’s the hottest thing she’s laid eyes on since she got to town. Simon agrees that something strange is going on and that Lisa’s disappearance may be tied to it. As he and Micky search for answers, the sweltering heat makes it hard to keep their heads straight or their hands off each other…even as they unravel the small-town secrets that some people are willing to kill for…

Be sure to check out the great excerpt on Alison's site.
My review:
Simon Baptiste needs to take a break from his SG-5 duties and reluctantly decides that this would be a good time to go to Louisiana to check on his property in Bayou Allain. The same homestead that he abandoned to the care of a property manager several years ago. Leaving Manhattan and the billboard facing his apartment that stunningly advertises Ferrer fragrances for a while should go far in clearing his mind of the recent mission that had gone terribly wrong. Imagine Simon's shock when he walks into his house to find a beautiful woman wearing nothing but wading boots and a sheer bra, rinsing her clothes in his kitchen sink. Especially when the woman turns out to be Michelina "Micky" Ferrer, the model he has secretly admired since the billboard went up across from his apartment. His surprise is nothing compared to the shock on her face though, and he immediately senses her terror. Learning the reason behind her unexpected visit to Bayou Allain, and the people behind the reason, he realizes that she has good reason to be frightened.
When Micky Ferrer wakes up in her Manhattan bedroom after yet another night of hard partying and questionable behavior, she decides to leave town for a while to escape the disappointment, albeit justified, of her famous family. Her long-time friend, Lisa, has repeatedly invited her to visit her home in Bayou Allain, and having recently hinted at something troubling her, Micky decides to head to Louisiana to escape the tabloids and her family. Upon her arrival in the small bayou town, Micky is unable to locate Lisa and begins asking questions. Evidently she is asking the wrong questions of the wrong people because she soon finds herself forced off the road and barely escapes her rental car as it sinks into the murky waters of the swamp. Joining forces with Simon Baptiste seems a guaranty of her physical safety as they search for clues in Lisa's disappearance, but as the two begin to dig into the history of Simon's land and the tainted descent of Lisa's in-laws, connected secrets are brought to light and soon they're both faced with danger.
Alison Kent never delivers a book that's anything less than brilliant. Her characters are always uniquely sharp, dialogue is snappy, and readers are guaranteed an emotionally rich story with precise layering. Simon is a familiar character from previous SG-5 books, and Alison's telling of his story is definitely worth the wait. Micky is initially reminiscent of a real-life heiress whose risque exploits make her a paparazzi favorite, but it doesn't take long to realize that she is sharply intelligent, fiercely loyal, and the perfect match for Simon. I couldn't give this book a stronger recommendation, especially for readers who have read the previous releases in this series.
I'm hoping that by now you're anxious to get your hands on a copy of NO LIMITS. If so, why not pop on over to Amazon and toss a copy in your cart - and I'll bet you have at least one friend who would love to be surprised with a copy in a May Day basket!
THE CONTEST: Alison is generously offering two copies of NO LIMITS, and would like to see a little chatter from all of you about the most romantic book you've read recently. Feel free to include the most romantic book you've "ever" read. I have a copy of the JINGLE BELL ROCK anthology in trade format for giveaway too - Alison's contribution is titled A BLUE CHRISTMAS. This book isn't autographed, but it is brand spanking new and hey, if you only like holiday tales around the winter holidays, then put it up until fall/winter! If you want in on the draw, simply leave a comment - I'll draw the winning names on Thursday, April 9th. Remember to check back as I won't track you down! Good luck!
Thanks for checking it out!

IT'S HOTTER IN HAWAII by HelenKay Dimon - she's giving away a copy here!

HelenKay Dimon has a new book coming out and I was extremely fortunate to get an early copy from her for review. (Thank you, HelenKay!) I've never been disappointed by HelenKay's books and I feel certain that most of you probably feel the same. Here's a little chatter and my review for IT'S HOTTER IN HAWAII and in addition, covers and blurbs for upcoming books.

Cassie Montgomery was in no mood for messing around—until she got an eyeful of the sizzling-hot miscreant breaking into her half-brother Dan’s Hawaii home. Turns out he’s not a criminal, but a friend who’s just as suspicious of Dan’s “accidental” death as she is. Cassie’s beyond tired of bashing heads with thick-skulled local law enforcement, so there’s only one thing for it: team up with Caleb Wilson, and try to keep her secrets—and hands—to herself...
Having a gun trained on him is nothing new for Cal. But when said gun is brandished by a goddess sporting short-shorts, a bad attitude, and a hidden agenda? A man should consider his choices very carefully. Option one: Seduce first, ask questions later. Option two: Find out why she’s in his Air Force buddy’s torn-up house, then seduce her. Option three: Let the islands do their work and let the woman behind the weapon seduce him...

MY REVIEW: When Cassie Montgomery’s big brother dies while piloting, and subsequently crashing, a helicopter used in his Hawaiian island-hopping business, she feels certain that his death was not accidental. Finding Dan’s rural Kauai home ransacked when she arrives to clean it out, she begins to search for clues and it isn’t long before she’s interrupted by an intruder trying to sneak in the window. Cal Wilson isn’t truly an intruder, but his work is cut out for him to get Cassie to trust him and allow him to join her investigation. Sparks fly when the two are together and soon their desire for each other is as strong as that to solve the mystery behind Dan’s death.
Caleb “Cal” Wilson was summoned by Dan shortly before his death and he’s incredulous to learn of Dan’s crash. He hadn’t seen Dan for some time and despite the unsettled issues and hard feelings between them, Cal couldn’t refuse Dan’s request for help. Cal can’t resist his attraction to Cassie, just as he can’t help his frustration over her hard-headed, albeit admirable, determination to find the truth behind her brother’s death. Soon the two have joined forces in searching for answers, in butting heads with local police and the DEA, and there’s an attraction that immediately encompasses them both. As the investigation deepens and more truths about Dan are uncovered, Cal knows it’s simply a matter of time before Cassie learns that he and Dan had been estranged and just what his role was in the termination of Dan’s military career.
HelenKay Dimon is consistently creative and always entertains readers with quick-witted characters, settings that come to life in readers’ minds, and vivid sensuality. Cassie’s pain at the loss of her brother seems almost tangible at times, and despite their frequent banter and heated passions, she and Cal never lose sight of the real reason they’ve been brought together. While this book is promoted as contemporary romance, it has a fair amount of suspense and could also, in my opinion, be categorized as a romantic suspense. Secondary characters play an intricate role in the story and two will have their stories told in upcoming books from Ms. Dimon. I give IT’S HOTTER IN HAWAII the highest recommendation to all romance readers.
If you can't get to the bookstore on release day, I suggest that you pop on over to
Amazon and toss a copy in your cart.

Take a look at what's coming in October '09: KISSING SANTA CLAUS with Donna Kauffman and Jill Shalvis!
Hawaii’s no paradise for Marissa, who, thanks to a series of unfortunate events, can’t seem to get away from the sand to enjoy her Christmas East Coast style—with plenty of snow and slush. But tall, dark, and serious police officer Ted’s about to give this bad Santa in heels a Mele Kalikimaka she’ll never forget…
Ted plays a key role in IT'S HOTTER IN HAWAII and I think readers are going to be very excited to read his story. I am so pleased that HelenKay is keeping us in Hawaii a while longer!

Also coming in October '09: HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO - what a gorgeous cover, huh? Very sensual, but tastefully so - I think it's especially nice! And having gotten to know Josh a bit in IT'S HOTTER IN HAWAII, I can't wait to see what HelenKay has in mind for him! He definitely deserves a determined woman who will keep him on his toes!

Deana Armstrong needs a hero—not for herself, but for the nephew all her money and time can’t seem to get out of jail. Unfortunately, the best hero in all the Hawaiian Islands is set on turning in his badge and getting his excellent butt into another line of work. If that wasn’t enough, Josh Windsor also has a big-time grudge against Deana herself. But if there’s anything being rich, smart, and stubborn has taught Deana, it’s never to settle for second best…
Josh has had it with saving people. He’s had it with getting hauled into court. And boy, has he ever had it with Deana. Or well, he hasn’t had it. Yet. But the more she pops up sounding infuriating and looking good enough to eat, the more her hot bod and her cold case wriggle into his mind. And there’s only so much even a hero can resist…

How's that for something to look forward to? I hope you'll all check out HelenKay's newly remodeled website and her books. Be sure to let her know what you think, ok? HelenKay truly appreciates her readers and I don't know any author who doesn't enjoy hearing when someone enjoys their work.
And now, even more exciting news! I have an autographed arc of IT'S HOTTER IN HAWAII for giveaway! Thanks to HelenKay, one lucky reader will win a copy just for leaving a comment. Feel free to chat about the usual romance reader stuff - fave HelenKay book, fave HelenKay hero, HelenKay's new website - it's all about HelenKay!! I'll draw the winning name this Friday, 3/27 - good luck, everyone!

DEFENDER, coming soon from Catherine Mann!

Catherine Mann has an upcoming release (Berkley, April '09), DEFENDER, and guess who got an arc from Romance Junkies for review? You got it - I did! Catherine Mann has been a long-time favorite of mine for her wonderful military series books - and because she has always been extremely generous in donating books for prizes whenever Lori Foster and I have had troop projects going on. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Catherine, but Lori has told me that she's an absoute doll. You can always count on accuracy in the military details in her work because she's married to her very own Airman! Take a moment to check out Catherine's website where you'll find great excerpts for DEFENDER and HOTSHOT (her May '09 release). You can bet that I'll be getting my hands on it as soon as it hits the shelves!
My (4 blue ribbon) Romance Junkies review:
When the boat carrying Chloe Nelson and other USO performers explodes, it’s just the beginning of the sparks that ignite between her and Airman Jimmy Gage in Catherine Mann’s DEFENDER.

Kidney transplant survivor Chloe Nelson owes her life to the soldier whose death, and subsequent organ donation, saved her. She takes time off from her position as an orchestra director in Atlanta to perform as a back-up singer to a popular pop star in a USO tour. When the boat the USO troupe is traveling in explodes, airmen risk their lives in shark-infested waters to come to their rescue. Jimmy and his team are in the area searching for one of their own that is being held captive and they begrudge the time they’re spending to rescue and subsequently guard the entertainers while their buddy is missing; Jimmy knows first-hand how important it is that they find him right away. Despite her skimpy attire at the time of their rescue, Chloe is not just a pretty face. She is a successful conductor and accomplished musician, independent and self-sufficient; fully capable of taking care of herself. When the danger surrounding her and the attraction between her and Jimmy begin to escalate, Chloe is understandably confused.

Jimmy Gage is focused and determined, and extremely displeased when his team is temporarily delayed because of some fluffy USO entertainers. Sure, he feels the same sparks as Chloe when they’re close, but he doesn’t have time in his life or a place in his heart for more than a quick, meaningless diversion. When it appears that there could be a connection between the repeated attacks on the USO troupe and the disappearance of Jimmy’s friend, he’s more anxious than ever to have Chloe tucked safely away and out of danger.

Chloe and Jimmy are simply wonderful together. Both are cautious, intelligent and in complete control of their lives. Catherine Mann takes readers smack dab into the middle of military operations; it’s immediately clear that her knowledge is first-hand. The amount of military jargon is just right – easy to understand and follow without leaving readers overwhelmed or confused. There are multiple storylines in DEFENDER, all intensely intriguing and intertwined without taking readers on a wild goose chase. I highly recommend DEFENDER to readers of contemporary romance, military romance, and romantic suspense.

Thanks for checking it out! I hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend!

HER BEST FRIEND'S BROTHER - the latest from Kay Stockham! I have a copy for give away!

Kay Stockham has a new book - yay!! You all know how much I love hot, steamy romance, but I also enjoy stories that are fresh and sweet, where passions and lovemaking might be a little more subdued, but the most important element - the romance – is front and center. HER BEST FRIEND’S BROTHER is the next installment in Kay Stockham’s “Tulane’s of Tennessee” series and I truly feel that it is her most emotionally charged to date. Kay was kind enough to send me an early copy and (with her consent) I’ve decided to offer it up as a giveaway here.

How could this have happened?
They had one night. That’s all Shelby Brookes would allow herself to indulge in with Luke Tulane. Yes, he’s gorgeous and yes, he’s the greatest guy she knows, but he’s her best friend’s brother for crying out loud! And she’s pretty sure there are rules against sleeping with friends’ brothers.
Then Shelby discovers she’s pregnant. And Luke’s determined to do the right thing—down to the bended knee proposal and the meeting at the altar. As tempting as his offer is, Shelby’s convinced she’s not the marrying kind. She’s bound to hurt him and that’s definitely against the rules of friendship. Still, she doesn’t count on how persuasive Luke can be when he really wants something…her.

And check this out - HER BEST FRIEND'S BROTHER is yet another Romantic Times TOP PICK for Kay! Congratulations, Kay!
"In Stockham's heartwarming and delightful tale of love, Shelby and Luke overcome their personal tragedy. The author does an excellent job detailing her characters' emotional growth." -4.5 Stars! ROMANTIC TIMES
Be sure to go to Kay's website for video trailer and excerpt!
My review:
Shelby Brookes and Luke Tulane have known each other since they were children. Luke’s sister, Alex, is Shelby’s long-time best friend. While there may have been an attraction between Shelby and Luke when they were teens and young adults, they never gave in to it until after Luke’s brother’s wedding. Maybe it was the romantic atmosphere of the wedding and the reception after, but the passion that flared between them was undeniable and irresistible.
Since their night together, Shelby has avoided Luke and ignored his calls, not terribly difficult when he lives and works in California. When Luke returns to Tennessee for his twin brother's wedding, Shelby can't avoid him. It soon becomes obvious that Shelby is pregnant from their earlier night together and Luke insists that they get married. A child of divorce, Shelby doesn't have much faith in lasting, successful marriages, but she wasn't prepared for Luke's dogged determination and perseverance and they marry.
When Luke returns to California and their marriage is long distance, Luke's positive thinking and the loving support of their families might not be enough to keep them together.
Kay Stockham writes some of the most touching, heartfelt romance I've ever read. Shelby, Luke and their families and friends are incredibly realistic and could easily be your own relatives or neighbors. I strongly recommend this book to contemporary romance lovers who enjoy sweetly sensual, emotionally gripping stories.

REDNECK CINDERELLA - Great fun from LuAnn McLane - and yes, there's a giveaway!

I was fortunate enough to snag the latest book by LuAnn McLane for Romance Junkies review and it's so much fun that I wanted to share some chatter and my review with you! If you visit the "books" link on LuAnn's website, you can read the first chapter.
About the book:
Raised by her widowed father, Jolie Russell could keep up with any man—that is, until wealthy and sexy land developer Cody Dean struts into her life.
Cody buys the Russell farm with an impossible-to-refuse multimillion-dollar offer, then relocates Jolie and her dad to the Copper Creek Estates. But the country club atmosphere isn’t ready for Jolie’s kind of country. As her two worlds collide, Jolie wonders how she can ever hope to capture Cody’s heart without giving up her grits.
My (4 blue ribbons) review:
LuAnn McLane offers readers the fun, lighthearted story of a farm girl and admitted redneck, Jolie Russell, who goes from being dirt poor to incredibly rich. Just like Cinderella – every girl’s dream, right? Unfortunately, Jolie is more than a little lost trying to fit in with the snobby neighbors in her fancy new neighborhood. It could be that in trying to find her way around in her new life she’ll find much, much more in the arms of Cody Dean.
Jolie Russell and her father live on a piece of farm land that has become very attractive to local developers. When they’re made an obscenely lucrative offer for their land, they jump at the opportunity for an easier life and move to a ritzy, exclusive new neighborhood where hard, physical work and old pick up trucks are frowned upon. While Jolie wants to be a well-liked, pleasant neighbor, she’s often left floundering by neighbors who’ve repeatedly turned their noses up at her and her father. Before long, her confusion is multiplied as she’s pursued by the very successful, very gorgeous, and much desired Cody Dean. Jolie doesn’t want to lose sight of who she really is, but realizes that she and her father need some polish if they’re ever going to fit in. She eventually hires a local single teacher to coach her and her father in the ways of proper etiquette. It turns out that Jolie’s father can offer the teacher some lessons in the simple life and before long the social graces that she’s so well-versed in don’t seem nearly as important.
High dollar developer Cody Dean finds Jolie fascinating, beautiful and amusing, but he doesn’t immediately understand the appeal of the unassuming simplicity of her life before or how she could possibly miss it. He knows that others in his social circle think she and her father are unsophisticated, but the more he’s around her the less he cares about what others think and he wants the kind and caring Jolie for himself, just as she is.

REDNECK CINDERELLA is written first person, a style that LuAnn McLane has proven herself very competent in. Jolie and her father are definitely simple southern folks, but they’re adorable and don’t come off as being simpletons. Cody Dean and his family are the upper crust of society, but Cody’s opinion of what’s important and what’s good and what isn’t is quickly altered after spending time with the infectious Jolie and her father. REDNECK CINDERELLA is a comfortable, easy read. It’s a lighthearted look at a young woman who finds herself outside her comfort zone, looking in at the strange new world she’s now a part of. Secondary romances and a charming basset hound round out an entirely likable cast of characters. I give LuAnn McLane’s REDNECK CINDERELLA a high recommendation to all readers who enjoy romantic comedy.

I'm going to do a giveaway for my copy of REDNECK CINDERELLA - simply leave a comment and you'll be entered. If you want to chat about LuAnn's work, that's even better! I'll draw a winning name on Tuesday, March 10. Just so there are no misunderstandings, this is not an autographed copy and it is not an arc, it's my review copy and has one barely discernible spine crease. So, while it isn't pristine, it still comes with an enjoyment guarantee!
Can't wait? Then pop on over to Amazon and throw a copy in your cart right now!
REDNECK CINDERELLA is especially fun and I hope you'll all grab a copy!
Have a great weekend!

New and upcoming from Karen Kelley - yes, there's a giveaway!

I recently read the January '09 release from Karen Kelley, MY FAVORITE PHANTOM. I can't tell you the last time I've had so much fun reading a book! Karen's wonderful sense of humor can't help but spill over into her writing, but never at the expense of her characters who are always intelligent and sensually passionate, making for an enjoyable reading experience every single time! Here's a little info about MY FAVORITE PHANTOM, a brief review, and some info about Karen's June '09 release, HOW TO SEDUCE A TEXAN.
A blurb for MY FAVORITE PHANTOM:
When Professor Peyton Cache bought a big, gloomy, romantic Victorian house, he should have expected a ghost.
Kaci Melton needs to hide out for a while, and where better to disappear than a haunted house on one of her dad's ghost-hunting jobs?
Two problems: the professor is a tasty young guy with piecing blue eyes, six-pack abs, and a penchant for talking dirty. And the ghost scares the panties off her. Actually, given the professor, maybe that's not a problem...
And here's the link to a fun excerpt and ordering information.
My review:
Kaci Melton's father is a ghost hunter, but because he is hiding out from a loan shark, she has taken his most recent job. The only drawback is that Kaci is terrified of ghosts and Professor Peyton Cache has a very active one that he wants gone. When Peyton's resident ghost makes an appearance on the first night of Kaci's investigation and she scurries into his bed for safety, things immediately heat up between them. Trouble is, Peyton isn't the only one who finds Kaci adorable, and soon his ghost takes a fancy to her as well. Between the irresistible, dirty talking Peyton, his pesky, determined ghost, and a loan shark who is getting too close for comfort, Kaci is confused and more than a little harried.
Peyton is vying for a sizable grant and his opposition is a co-worker who is a scheming phony who criticizes Peyton's every move - with a fake British accent nonetheless. The obstacles in Peyton's way are beginning to loom rather large. He realizes Kaci's fears, the ghost amps up his activity out of an attraction to her, and he's very concerned about the dinner he's hosting for the grant committee. He doubts he can endear himself to his guests with a ghost in the house who has a penchant for tossing his underwear across the room. On top of all of that are the feelings that he's quickly developing for Kaci. Interestingly enough, those feelings are quickly taking precedence over everything else that is going on in his life.
If you're looking for a lighthearted read that doesn't skimp on sensuality, I highly recommend MY FAVORITE PHANTOM. Karen Kelley never disappoints, always giving readers quality romance that's fun without being ridiculous or silly.
And take a look at Karen's next release, available in June, 2009! Woo Doggies, does it ever look good!

And here's the link to a great excerpt and ordering information.
Now for the giveaway. I'm giving away my (autographed) arc of MY FAVORITE PHANTOM to one lucky reader. All you need to do to enter is leave a comment with at least three things you see at Karen's website - maybe an excerpt you love, a cover you think is super sexy, etc. - and come on everyone, please take the time to go check it out and don't simply copy someone else's response! I'll draw the winning name on Thursday, March 5th.
Thanks to Karen for allowing me to read and review this for you - my apologies for being so terribly late. Huge thanks to everyone for checking out Karen's books - you won't be disappointed in any of her work, I promise!

A LONG, HARD RIDE - coming soon from Alison Kent - there's a giveaway!

I adore Alison Kent's work and I’ll be the first to admit that I could probably be drawn into a dishwasher repair guide if she wrote it. Early March will bring the next in a long line of Blazes by Alison and I was fortunate enough to get an early copy (Thank you, Alison!). This is an excellent book with smart, fun-loving characters, long-standing southern tradition, witty dialogue and steamy sex. No details on the steamy sex except to say that Alison has written some of the most satisfying shower scenes ever (THE SWEETEST TABOO, anyone?), and this one doesn’t disappoint!
Here’s a blurb:
Cardin Worth is ready to tune up her engine—with Trey, her former crush! However, he’s a Davis—one of her car-racing family’s bitter rivals. But she might be able to create peace, and also get some sizzling sex on the side…
… if Trey pretends to be her fiancĂ©, that is!
Having a little fun on those steamy Southern nights seems like a great idea. Just to patch up the feud, of course. Then Trey’ll be leaving town again—this time for good.
But Cardin s not sure she can relinquish the superheated sex… Because Trey s the most talented, uh, mechanic to ever look under her hood!
From 0–60: Going from “Hello” to “How was it?” doesn’t have to take long!
And a link to a great excerpt!
My review:
Rolling into the small town of Dahlia, Tennessee as crew chief for the Corley Motors team at the Farron Fuel Spring Nationals, and subsequently winning, is as natural as breathing for Trey “Whip” Davis. Seeing Cardin Worth leaves him breathless. Whip and Cardin went to high school together, him being a couple of years older, but they never dated; never really even shared a conversation. What they did share was an undeniable, unspoken heat of the most basic kind. They both felt it but Whip left town before they could do anything about it.
Whip has personal business to attend to in Dahlia as well. After his father’s death six months ago, he's decided it’s time to clean out and sell his father’s home and he stays behind when the race team pulls out. When Cardin approaches him indicating that they need to talk, with a subtle promise of more than just talk, he’s unable to resist.
Cardin has her own issues to get straight - namely getting her recently separated parents back together. Their conflict is causing everyone distress, but they both refuse to budge. Cardin understands that their problems run deep and with their stubbornness it won’t be an easy fix, but she has a plan. She’s hopeful that Whip will buy into the fake engagement she’s hashed out, never doubting that the two of them will be convincing, given the emotions they’ve shared for so long.
It doesn’t take long for Whip and Cardin to feel comfortably at ease with the engagement ploy and they quickly realize that those early sparks, although never before acted upon, were simply a promise of things to come. But long-held traditions and grudges are slow to die and family secrets soon threaten to shatter the love that these two have just begun to discover.
I truly think this may be the best Blaze I’ve read to date. You might be thinking the false engagement premise has been done before and you find the notion silly or immature. I guarantee that Alison has done it right and you won’t be disappointed. The reactions to and the results of it are key to the story and it works, plain and simple. The racing lingo is understandable and not over-used, and the southern style and mannerisms of the characters is honest and accurate.

To help celebrate Alison’s book, I’ve decided to do a giveaway for two copies of A LONG, HARD RIDE. I’ll be drawing names prior to the book’s release so as to not interrupt those ever-important early sales, but obviously the winners won't get their books until I’m able to get my hands on them. If you’re interested – and who wouldn’t be, right? – just leave a comment here. You can talk about the usual things, favorite book, character, cover, etc. or chat about something fun on Alison's website or blog. Send a friend who mentions you and I’ll throw your name in an extra time. I’ll draw two names on Friday, February 27th – be sure and check back to see if you won because I won’t track you down!
If you want to pre-order so Amazon will send your copy on release day, pop over here for a copy. Thanks for stopping and thank you again, Alison, for allowing me to read and review A LONG, HARD RIDE for you!

Janice Maynard's HOT MAIL

I've read every book by Janice Maynard and loved them all, but I truly think she’s written my favorite with HOT MAIL. Janice is sweeter than a box of Valentine candy and will be here on Tuesday, February 10 as a guest blogger! I hope you'll all stop by and say hello. We’ll post an excerpt on Tuesday to tempt you, but in the meantime I’ve posted a review below. Oh, and did I mention there will be prizes? I'll be offering up some little goodies from the Go Red (for women's heart health) store - a make-up bag, some Go Red pens and some red dress pins.
A blurb:
Jane has wanted Ethan for years but has never found a way to tell him. With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, she decides to seduce him by sending anonymous erotic valentines every Friday until the big day. Then she’ll finally reveal her true feelings— and wildest desires.
But when her stationery store is vandalized, it’s Ethan who comes to her rescue—and the sparks start flying way ahead of schedule. Now Jane and her erotic alter ego are competing for Ethan’s affections— and the results couldn’t be hotter.

My review:
Jane and Ethan have known each other for more than half their lives; Jane has loved Ethan for several of those those years. They were best friends until Ethan secretly became engaged to someone else, and although that engagement was soon broken, Jane's tender heart and their friendship were both crushed. Jane finally decides that she’s waited long enough to make her feelings known and begins anonymously sending sexy valentines to Ethan. He is immediately intrigued by the suggestive poems, but when Jane’s paper/stationery shop becomes the target of a vandal, Ethan, as assistant police chief, focuses all of his attention on Jane and her safety. When the vandalism continues and the threat appears to be escalating, Ethan insists on sticking close, but Jane wants him for more than just her protector. It isn’t long before the two become involved, and Jane thinks her wishes may finally be coming true. Until, that is, Ethan's reaction to the naughty valentines isn't quite what Jane was hoping for.
Ethan, being your typical male, never quite understood what happened between him and Jane. All he knows is that he has desperately missed her friendship and even more so, her companionship. When he thinks that Jane is in danger, he becomes nearly obsessed with keeping her safe and soon realizes that his feelings for Jane run much deeper than he ever realized and his intentions quickly turn romantic. Ethan has decided that he wants a future with Jane, but the intrigue of the seductress sending him secret valentines is a frequent niggle in the back of his mind.
Jane and Ethan are both very likable characters. Janice Maynard has written them in such a way that they seem incredibly real and instantly familiar. There’s a good mix of sweet and sexy in HOT MAIL, typical of all of Janice’s books, and secondary romance of Ethan's sister is an equally sweet bonus. I give this book the highest of recommendations to all contemporary romance lovers. Not as blatantly erotic as Janice’s “Elizabeth Scott” works, HOT MAIL is plenty satisfying.Pop on over to Amazon for more information - and to order copies for yourself and a friend. I personally think this would make a great little Valentine's Day gift for a best friend - just look at that beautiful cover!

Janice, thank you so much for allowing me to read and review HOT MAIL for you – Jane and Ethan quickly became my favorites of all of your characters!
