WELCOME! Absolute XPress authors!

Ok, you've had an opportunity to read bios, blurbs an excerpts below - let's start the day off with questions for the authors, Friday the 13th superstitions, Valentine's Day plans, or anything else you want to chat about. I'm at work today, so I might be a wee bit scarce, but I'm looking forward to catching up as I can!

Thanks to AXP for being here today - welcome!!

Good morning, Laurie!

I try not to be superstitous, but having grown up in the south with a mom who is very superstitious it's kind of hard to just turn it off. And especially when I get a call from my husband telling me he's been rear ended on the interstate! He's OK but just stuck until the police get there.

I read through some of the excerpts at the Absolute site - they all sound great. Thanks for bringing the site to my attention. I didn't know about it.

So does anybody have any ultra romantic plans for the 14th? We've been married so long we decided to eat a nice meal out, but we did it on Tuesday to avoid the crowds on the actual holiday. Doesn't sound too romantic, does it?

Good morning Lisa. Glad to have you come over and check out Absolute XPress.

We are taking the kids to Disneyland, we leave this evening from Sacramento and head down... so... Romantic??? Fun, full of laughter and good times... absolutely.

Good Morning! Thanks for hosting us, Laurie!

Lisa, so glad the hubbie is okay. Like you, I try not to be superstitious, but a bit of my mother and grandmother's oddness lingers.

Is it a sign that I had 13 emails this morning? :0

We just got back from a cruise. Romance on the high seas, so if Valentines Day goes ignored, I'm okay with that. In Canada this is a long weekend--Family Day--so we'll probably take the kids and hit the big Chinese buffet in Niagara Falls.

Hi everyone. I'm actually early for once.
So what is everyone's plans for tomorrow?
Not much here. Going out with my sweetie to the movies and out to eat. We're keeping it simple this year.

Good morning, ladies -

Lisa, thank goodness Eddie wasn't hurt - how frightening for you all.

Disneyland sounds great, Heather! I was there when I was 16 and would love to go back.

Lainey - a cruise? No wonder I haven't seen you around - I didn't realize you were off having the time of your life or I wouldn't have wondered about you! I didn't realize you're near Niagara Falls. We vacationed there two summers ago and had a great time. Spent one afternoon driving up around Niagara on the Lake - stopped at a cheese shop/deli/antique shop and bought cheese and crostini and parked alongside the road and had a little picnic. We all agreed that it was our favorite of all of the things we did.

Kimmy, I hope you have a fabulous time! My hubby and I are alone this weekend and will be going somewhere for dinner. He always complains about the wait, so we'll no doubt go early! I told him I don't really care what time I go, so long as I can sit down and have someone wait on me - someone not wearing a visor, that is!!

Since we live here we get to go more often then most...

So Friday the 13th... what are your superstitions for the day?

Denysé Bridger said...

No superstitions on my part, Friday the 13th has always been a very lucky day for me in the past. Oddly, most of the really cool surprises I've had for the past 20 years or so have happened on a Friday the 13th.

Romantic plans? None on this end, just a quiet evening with a movie and a lovely bottle of Sicilian wine. Maybe next year...

The AXP authors are a great bunch so far, and the books are top notch with someone for everyone, so I hope a lot of you stop by to check out the titles, and make a point of dropping by the contest blog regularly, too, because each month we'll be up to something new!

Check back later....

Blessings to everyone,
And HUGE huge and thanks to Laurie for having us over to chat with her readers.

No superstitions on my part, but my hubby more than makes up for it. He grew up in the "hollers" of WV and had superstitions and old wives tales pounded in him from an early age. I've finally convinced him that they're ridiculous beliefs - all but a couple, that is!

For those who don't know, the AXP authors hang out at Denyse's yahoo loop - things are usually always hopping there and I guarantee there's not a nicer, more thoughtful bunch to spend the day with!

I simply adore these guys and want everyone to know about their work and this exciting new publisher!

Hello, everybody.

It's R.L. Stuemke, known to everyone on Denyse's list as Roberta. I'm going to coming and going throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening, between running a few errands and visiting with a friend who's up here for a few days. No, no romance - haven't had that in my life for far too long to think about.

So, what else is going on?

I have a few questions for any (or all) of the AXP authors who care to answer:
* Do you have a daily routine to ensure time for writing or do you play it by ear each day?
* Do you listen to music while you work? If so, who??
* Are there any genres you haven't tried that you'd like to?
* Does your family support your work?
And lastly to those who write explicit or erotic romance - does your mother know what you write? lol Does she read your work??

I'm so glad you're here today, although I am quite disappointed that it's been so quiet.

Anonymous said...

I'll answer some of those...

1. I play it by ear... with the day job, the kids, the spouse... if I get time to myself I write.
2. Music is a no go for me...
3. I love the genre I write in because it allows me to incorporate other genres, suspense, mystery... anything I want into the romance
4. My family, from my dad to my aunt's support me. My husband is great...
5. Yes my mother and my father know what I write and they both read it... they are very proud of me and tell all their friends... (that can be embarrassing on the visits home... )

Roberta here again.

I tried to set up a routine, where I would spend at least two hours every evening writing. Over the last two years, however, that routine flew out the window, for a very long, tedious list of reasons. Suffice it to say, I still spend at least two hours every evening online, but frequently a lot of that is either research or talking to online friends. I write primarily on weekends now, when I can devote some straight time, preferably uninterrupted and feeling fresher than I do after a day at work.

I ALWAYS listen to music when I writing - or reading or doing research or doing puzzles or ... You get the picture. I like solid soundtracks (right now, Prince Caspian is playing), good New Age (Arkenstone, Tingstad & Rumbel), third-stream jazz (Swingle Singers, Claude Bolling, Jacques Louissier), classical guitar, and anything baroque.

I've at least tried virtually every genre I enjoy reading. The only one I haven't tried yet is straight murder mystery - I love reading a good mystery/suspense, like Beverly Barton, and I'm crazy about J.D. Robb / Eve Dallas, but my brain just doesn't come up with plots that would suit.

I have always been supported by my family concerning my writing, since my first efforts back in grade school. I lost my mother about 2.5 years ago, before AXP happened, and she never got a chance to read my paranormal attempts. I know she probably wouldn't enjoy them much herself - and she admitted she probably wouldn't - but she was quite happy that I was finally thinking about making the attempt to go pro again. Right now, my siblings are still supporting me, even though only one sister actually reads paranormals. They just all know I love writing, and they've happy I'm doing something with it.

As I said, Mom never read any of my paranormals, but we talked about them a lot. She admitted the plots sounded interesting, but also admitted she wouldn't like reading sex scenes, and I know she would have stopped reading something at the first curse word - and for my mother, anything harder than 'darn' constituted cursing, and made her uncomfortable.

Okay people - it's time now, past time really - so someone else get on here and start talking! please???

Roberta

My sister was born on Friday the 13th and anything that could go wrong on the way to the hospital did..including a flat tire. I don't know if it's because of the day or that my sister can't do anything without drama...including coming into this world.

Anonymous said...

LOL... perhaps your sister can't do anything without drama because she came into the world on that day? Just a thought... or she could have just been born the drama queen...

So, to Laurie's questions:

* Do you have a daily routine to ensure time for writing or do you play it by ear each day?
I attempt to keep a routine, but rarely succeed. Mostly of the time it's the same, seven days a week. Mail, posts, then writing. The writing has suffered a lot recently because so much of my time has been taken up with business.

* Do you listen to music while you work? If so, who??
I always have music on in the background when I'm working. And 95% of the time it's romantic love songs, and ususally Italian in origin. The language is lyrical and beautiful, and when you put it to music, it's even more lovely..... Singers like Riccardo Foresi and Patrizio Buanne are the epitome of romance.... Music inspires, as it did with my first WRP story, which evolved from the song "Bella Signorina" and the lyrics are used within the story itself in limited context. One of the nicest things I've ever written, a sweet, sexy tale of love and romance in Rome.

* Are there any genres you haven't tried that you'd like to?
Not so far. I never stick to one genre, and I bounce around with the mood and story, so a little bit of everything. My website will prove that!

* Does your family support your work?
My family is always supportive, which is wonderful. The people who love you, their pride in your talent, they're precious gifts. The guy I love is even going to be my cover model on a couple of new books this year!

*And lastly to those who write explicit or erotic romance - does your mother know what you write? lol Does she read your work??
My mom knows, but neither she nor my little sister have ever read one of my erotic romances. We're all happy with that decision.

Great questions, Laurie - as always. Will check back again later... so if anyone has a questions, toss it out here and we'll get to it!!!

Hugs and Blessings to everyone....

Laurie, too funny. When my hubbie and I were first dating, one of our favorite things to do was hit a deli, grab a few yummy things and hike the Niagara escarpment. Lovely.

And on to the questions.

1.I work at home helping the dh run an hvac business, so depending on the time of year, I can grab a few hours to write every afternoon--except maybe in air conditioning season. BUT I do have 2 teenagers, a cranky geriatric cat and 3 big dogs so what I most routinely do is housework!

2.Music while I write, silence while I revise and/or edit. My son made me a bunch of mixed up, messed up CD's with everything from Patsy Cline and Bob Marley to AC/DC and Neil Diamond. Anything but rap works for me!

3. I think I've pretty much found my niche. No matter what I set out to write, comedic sarcasm leaks in, so I can't see me trying my hand at a dark paranormal or a murder anytime in the near future.

4. YES. Except maybe my mother who still wishes I'd gone to teachers college or nursing school like a 'normal' daughter. lol

5. Mom has read my sweeter romances, but I do have a few--including my recent AXP release Cozumel Karma--that I just haven't mentioned to her because I know she'd likely be uncomfortable reading them.

Anonymous said...

Hi, Laurie! Congrats to all of the Absolute XPress authors! I've read Cozumel Karma and loved it! *waves* Hi, Lainey!

What are each of you working on now?

Anonymous said...

I have "Red's Wolf" coming in August... waiting on cover art... "Calm Before the Storm" is close to being submitted... within a week.. and I am working on a third book in that same setting... so a trilogy of sorts, called "Kraig's Kat". They are all werewolf romances... my own favorite kind... with another twist to the characters. Each of the non shapehifters has some other sort of extra sensory talent... not just esp or empathy... I had to look hard for something unique in each of them.

lainey bancroft said...

Waves back, Robin! Thanks for taking time from your busy Blogiversary party to breeze by!

And ((((thanks)))) for the kind words on Cozumel Karma! If anyone I've met lately on the net has good Karma, I know it's you. And of course our wonderful hostess, Laurie!

Good Evening.

Happy Valentine's to all... sorry I am so late getting here. Been a crazy day.

Colleen Love said...

Sorry to stop in so late!! I usually babysit 12 hours on Fridays, but today was my lucky day! I just got home from the barn and realized I have dirt and grain kisses on my face. hehe Typical...

My day starts out with getting my kids through their lessons. We homeschool and have lots of fun doing it. :)
Afternoons are play/barn time. We help my trainer with her 5 gentle giants and they are just the most magnificant animals! So, you can guess that just about every book I write has horses in it. :)

Does my mom read my books? Yep and she brags about them to her friends. I do write erotic romance and I figure we all got here somehow, might as well celebrate it. hehe

I listen to all kinds of music, so depending on the mood of scene I'm writing, I usually match it. But usually I listen to classical.

Thank you for the fun today, Laurie!

Hugs

Okay, ladies - I'm signing off for today. I'm still disappointed that most of my usual readers didn't make an appearance. I very much appreciate the time you took to be here and share a little info about yourselves and your work!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all - I hope you have a great weekend!
