The naked dude

My youngest daughter is a freshmen this year at Kent State U, majoring in fine art. The other day she texted me that her drawing class started figure drawing that morning. In response to my telling her that figure drawing should be really interesting, she texts back "Yeah, but we had to draw like, this naked dude." I reminded her that she knew this was part of the course and that I knew she would do fine. I didn't want to make her uncomfortable with too many inquiries. End of conversation.
Until, that is, I mentioned it to her older sister who then started teasing that she was a perv, etc. Oldest then asks if the guy was cute or not. Youngest replied "No, he was kind of homely actually, which made it lots easier to remember that it was for art." Too funny.
Don't get me wrong, we're not some kind of backwoods family who doesn't understand or appreciate fine art. Nudity is a huge part of art and art history, and we know that the human body can be beautifully illustrated. This was just the first time we've encountered it on a "personal" level.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. It's cool and rainy here for the next couple of days, then partly cloudy on Sunday which is perfect because there's a Veteran's Day parade here on Sunday afternoon and we're all hoping for no rain! I'm planning to stay inside and do some baking.

That is quite the story, Laurie. It made me chuckle. I was never any good at art, so I never had an experience like that, but I had friends who did.

Have a good weekend! :)

LOL! I'm feeling a little sorry for this homely model ;) Hope your daughter's having fun with all her classes!

Found your blog searching through other Ohio blogs. My husband and I attended KSU (and I have 2 cousins there currently) as well and my husband was also an art major (education though). I remember him coming home talking about the nudes. I would tease him when it was women because I was fat and prego a the time.

Have fun this weekend at the Veteran's Day Parade, my stepson says it's supposed to snow (at least down here towards Dayton/Springfield).

Thanks, Fedora - she is enjoying her classes and having an excellent freshman year so far!

Teri, so glad you stopped by! My daughter is enjoying the art program very much, although she's undecided what direction she wants to go with it. right now it's either illustration or art therapy - I figure she'll probably change her mind a few more times before graduation! We're just north of Columbus and I've heard talk about some flurries tomorrow -I'm staying in to bake! I'm just hoping it will fair up for the parade Sunday so we can recognize the veterans.

LOL Too funny.

I wonder if she'll show you the drawing when she's done?

Leave to older sis to rattle her cage huh... I am so not an artist. I do doodle but that is about it.
Glad to hear she is having a great year so far.
Hope she is feeling better.

Chance of snow down her in Cinti tomorrow.

Well if my daughter knew she had to draw pics of naked men, she will never take art classes. Of course she's only 7 right now and thinks even men not wearing shirts is naked and ewwwws and covers her eyes.
